Another cricket season has finally drawn to a close; The Ashes Series was a resounding success, from both the great win by Australia in the first test and the return of "The Ashes" to Australia.

From an operational point, we got absolutely slammed as was witnessed by Steven Webber personally. Steven and I got stuck between gate 7 and 9, which is about 60 metres long, it only took us an hour bulking the rubbish from that stretch of the concourse.

I think Steven was glad to leave the next day, but it was great to see that even the COO of the company, got down and got dirty with the rest of us.

As for the all the staff who worked the Ashes Series, may I take this opportunity to personally thank each and every one of you for such an outstanding job done during this record breaking attendance at "The Gabba". In fact the record was broken after the first 3 days. To those of you who did not get to attend the BBQ, next time we meet, I will certainly be buying you a couple of drinks (at the company's expense of course).

There was another major contributor to the success of the BIGGEST event ever held at The Gabba, and that is of Mr Rob Steer the Event Manager from The Gabba. Rob is the consummate professional, and with his leadership and the fantastic team behind him, they supported and kept us inspired to complete the enormous task, many thanks Rob.

After all the dust had settled, there was a final debriefing meeting for the international series which was attended by Cricket Australia and the ICC. The outcome of this meeting was communicated via an email from Rob Steer on the 8th of February, the bottom line comment was, and I quote, "All in all the comment from the officials was The Gabba has the best cleaning operation in Australia bar none".

There will be an official document coming from Major Sports Facility Authority in the very near future. This is what is all about, when you receive this sort of accolade, the countless hours of pain pales into insignificance and becomes a fond memory of a great job well done by all concerned.

One last special mention, there was a small RUMBLE through the Gabba on the night shift, that being Jodie Rumble who led the night shift crew. Without her local knowledge of the client's expectations, the task could not have been completed with such great success. I have forgiven her for calling me at 2:45am on the first night, she was losing staff left and right, so she decided that I had to share in the experience and get in there and help out. Thanks Jodie.

The football season is now upon us, and it looks like the young Lions are ready for all comers. A big win in the pre season cup will ensure greater attendances and lots of BLOODY RUBBISH.
