With the Gabba's redevelopment finally completed at the end of 2005 there has been a new atmosphere at the stadium. With the final stage of building an additional 4,000 seats has brought the venues capacity up to 41,000 as it completed a totally enclosed bowl. The building and the swath of colours used for the seats make it a wonderful sight whether empty of full. With completion also came the busiest month ever at the venue – January 2006.
With sell-out crowds for a number of international cricket matches, the Gabba also hosted Australia's first ever 20Twenty Game with fans enjoying the match and the facility the Gabba also hosted the third final of the VB Series. The state team were also on the up with Queensland again hosting the Pura Cup Final this time South Australia the opposition.
With the international cricket focus moving overseas the AFL season loomed large on the horizon and the Brisbane Lions AFL Season commenced on the 8th April with the Lions tackling Essendon.
Planning is already in progress for the Ashes Tour 06/07 which expects to have sell out crowds at all matches played at the venue. With the Gabba once again hosting the first test, the action will continue all year round.
The Gabba is not just a cricket and AFL ground there is also many functions running all year round with the members dining area enlarged it provides spectacular views, as does the Gabba, Legends and Champions function rooms this completes the trilogy of function rooms at the venue.
