This time of the year is always the best time for me because I know that I can relax (just a little) in knowing that the Wimbledon recruitment has been completed and that all our staff have been confirmed for the Qualifying and Championship Tournaments.
The high retention rate is indicative of the glamour and profile of the event and of Cleanevent as an “employer of choice”.
In the past many of our applicants have been sourced from the University of Surrey at Roehampton which, due to its close proximity to SW 19, provides an ideal recruiting ground for Cleanevent and is equally convenient to students of the university.
Over 1000 applications are processed by the Human Resources team here in London, interviews are arranged for the month of April / May and conducted on-site at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon.
This year the focus was on both day and night cleaners as separate recruitment days were held for both. The candidates were interviewed over a period of four interview Saturdays which consisted of two to three interview sessions on each Saturday.
It is no easy task interviewing almost 350 students in one session but it is all worth it as the students are always a pleasure to employ! Subsequent to this we hand-pick the most suitable candidates for the 500 coveted court attendant and cleaning positions available. As you would imagine all successful candidates are delighted at being accepted and being a part of this wonderful event.
Once the 500 positions have been filled we then provide all staff with the appropriate training, a generic induction to Cleanevent and a site-specific induction to Wimbledon itself. Many of the students enjoy working at the event to such an extent that they keep coming back for more every year!
There are many applicants that have worked at Wimbledon for the past three to four years who, upon joining the private sector, tend to take their annual leave just to be at Wimbledon.
The Wimbledon Tennis Championships is an exciting and prestigious event to work at and one which Cleanevent is proud to be part of. This years Championships are shaping up as Cleanevent’s most successful in the five year history of servicing the event.
