Australia leads the way with a busy Event & Venue Season What a great 3 months it has been! In the world of Business Development, Cleanevent has just been advised that we have won the hotly contested tender for the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre.

There is no tougher client than the MECC and to have secured the contract again is testament to the outstanding quality and performance that our team has continued to put in, ever since the MECC opened in 1996.

Congratulations to Dean Taylor, Jeff Butcher and all who have helped deliver such a consistent and ever improving product over so many years. Many thanks go out to; Frank Mohren, Marie Ryan and the MECC for your continuing confidence in us.

In Brisbane last December, we were reappointed to the Gabba, against aggressive local competition. Russell Murray and Terry Redman deserve congratulations on a job well done. Perhaps one day the Gabba will see a ‘Five Day Test’ if we get some real opposition – or at least a team that can last longer than 3 days!

The Events Season is on - Brian Scharper and his major events team have never been busier. The 10th Grand Prix was an outstanding success with great feedback from the Corporate clients. I'd like to thank Warwick Matthews from AGPC and Sam Cowell from KBR for their support.

I'd also like to thank Paul Barrett (AKA – Digga) for his professionalism -great to have you back in Australia. The Easter Show started 18 March and Hugh Carey has a great team working closely with Allan Morgan of the RASNSW.

Over in Adelaide, Wayne Taylor has done a great job on Clipsal 500 - a huge event, which works well, due mainly to his focus and drive, as well as a a great client. The Golden Slipper day at Rosehill in Sydney on Saturday 18 march - more Group 1 races than ever. Peter Marshall has it in hand, with the help and support of a great client in Graeme Ferris.

The Big Day Out in Melbourne, St Kilda Festival, the Sydney International Tennis, NYE in the Domain and many more smaller events have been managed well by, an exceptional team under leadership from our Operations Manager Darren Carter - many thanks - I know how demanding this time of the year can be. In addition, our new agreement with the VRC is working out nicely, a thank you to the team at Flemington, which includes; Rebecca Harvey, Craig Maltman and Terry Freeman.

We appreciate your ongoing support in helping to make it work with our group, headed up by Paul Desmond – congratulations to all. In a management sense, it has been good to have Nicko Mavro join us - he is adding real value to the Australian business. In particular, I am very excited by the Quality Accreditation process that we have embarked upon. We expect certification to ISO 9001:2000 within the next 2 months.

So all in all, a great start to the year. I am looking forward to another successful year.

Peter Payne, Chief Executive Officer
