Athens Workshop
Published on 29-SEP-04
During the Athens 2004 Games, Cleanevent hosted 6 visitors from the Beijing Motorised Cleanse Group. This followed on from a number of prior visits to China, and a BMCG delegation coming to Australia over the 2003 Spring Carnival. We have now signed a Proposal for Cooperation for the 2008 Olympic Games between our two Companies.

The Chinese delegation was led by Mr Shao Pei (pictured) and lasted for 10 days. The program included periods of formal presentations; site visits prior to the Games to enable in depth inspection; then visits to see the venues in live mode during Olympic operation. There were equipment inspections and a social program that included a Reception at the Australian Embassy, where we were also able to entertain some BOCOG representatives. Our longstanding Athenian friend Dimitris Marsellos added some famed local hospitality.

It is only every 4 years that there is an opportunity to experience first hand the complexities and commitment required to satisfy the multiple stakeholders at an Olympic Games. Some 42 functional areas can effect the cleaning and waste program. Cleanevent hosts included Craig and Paul Lovett, Darren Carter and Steven Webber. With their experience from Atlanta, Sydney and Salt Lake, they were able to inform and prepare the Chinese. My thanks also to Alex Schless from Hako, Charles Qin our Australian interpreter, Narelle Tweedie and Lucas Barclay for their work on the ground.
