Venue Cleaning Manager

After a busy three months the team and I took a well deserved rest over Christmas and came back refreshed and ready for another busy year.

The start of the year saw the return of the ‘Tweenies’, a fun packed family show consisting of three shows a day. The show was similar to Disney on Ice in the respect that the days were long and the turnarounds tight. With the team well accustomed to these matinee shows the event went smoothly.

January also saw the return of Meat Loaf (for the last time we hope). After collapsing on stage in November these two shows were to appease the fans that missed their concerts. February saw another ice show “Holiday on Ice” also another matinee show, although down sized considerably, this was a walk in the park compared to the Tweenies or Disney on Ice, and again the team were on fire!

February was a little busier than January with our first major event ‘Blink 182’. The event, a standing show, went well and considering the amount of time between our last major event, the nightshift did an excellent job.

The next event was the B-Boy Championship, a rapping contest, with a small attendance due to the show mainly being for television. Shania Twain for two days was a very high profile event for Wembley. Both nights were sold out shows from wall to wall with the climax of the show, an extravaganza of streamers, pyrotechnics, and enough confetti to make a cleaner drop to their knees and wonder what they had done wrong in life. A good show all the same and proved to be no contest for my Russian nightshift, receiving praise from the client for a job well done.

Looking forward to a very busy March, with 15 days of events including The Offspring, Busted, and Diana Ross, as well as various exhibitions bringing us back in the thick of it all. As the Manager, I feel that the team need the challenge of back-to-back events again to keep them on their toes. I’m sure that the ever-demanding environment that is Wembley Arena will keep the enthusiasm for the job present in every staff member, and we look forward to another busy year.
