Venue Cleaning Manager

Since starting as Venue Cleaning Manager the months have gotten progressively busier, and built up to crescendo of cleaning activity this December.

October gave us three one-day events, best disco, girl guiding, and mega star mania. This then led to Kensington Temple, which comprised of three seminars a day, all discussing the schematics of their unique religion. The event as a whole ran for a week and gave staff the opportunity to practice smaller changeovers, an attribute that would prove to be imperative for the onslaught that was Disney on Ice.

Disney on Ice was an ice show that lasted for six days with three shows a day. The turnarounds were tight and the days long, but our guys proved they could work as a solid unit and came up with the goods. The final weekend of the event saw a capacity crowd of 5000 for each showing and we were given 45 minutes for the changeover.

Mariah Carey was the last show in October and again was a sell out show.

This then took us to November and our first event was Christina Aguillera for three days back to back. November proved to be the most exciting with regards to the number of big name acts, Simply Red followed by Nelly for two days, then Beyonce for two days and Blue for two days, a massive week in terms of revenue.

Bob Dylan was next and looked good for his age!! Meat Loaf followed, but collapsed on stage and had to cancel the next night’s show, they say the Meat fell out of his Loaf!! Linkin Park then followed, plus two nights of David Bowie, and Muse took us to the end of a very busy month and into December, which will be an even bigger month.

December will prove to be the most challenging month of the year, with twenty-two days of back to back events, two five day exhibitions and a clean of the Grand Hall (Conference Centre). Top names for the month include UB40, Elton John, Busta Rhymes, Madness, Feeder, The Doors, five days of Blue, Meat Loaf (if he makes it), and Eddie Izzard. We have a week off over Christmas and then it’s back in to bring in the New Year with Christ's Embassy.

As well as cleaning Wembley Arena, we are starting to make regular appearances in the exhibition business at Wembley. As I have already mentioned we are servicing exhibitions in December including the Wembley Music Fair and the Classic Car Fair. In addition to these we have done the London Home Building Exhibition, the Mela Exhibition, and we have also been asked to deal with a few tight turnarounds in the Conference Centre, which bodes well for future business.
