Scott Booth Event Manager
This was the first time Cleanevent has been involved in the Glastonbury Festival, a festival holding high prestige and regarded in the UK festival season as the ‘one to be at’. Before venturing out there, the team and I were as excited as the general public to be involved.
So, down to the cleaning! We had 2500 toilets to service for 5 days between the hours of 0600 – 2200hrs, 1700 polyjons and 800 longdrops which for those of you who may be unfamiliar, comprise of 8 toilets back to back with a seat where you put your bum and a big hole in the ground, with a spring mounted door that probably covers about two thirds of your body from everyone else outside the door.
The cleaning of these toilets went very well and we received praise from the client right through to the general public and as Event Manager, it was very rewarding to hear. Toilets are usually one of the talking points of this festival, and almost a standing joke for how bad they normally are.
This job was terrible at times for the guys actually out there scrubbing them, some pretty disgusting stuff to deal with, so a big, big thank-you to all my staff and supervisors who were great during the whole of the event.
As for the planning process, there was a great deal of hard work that went into this event for myself, which helped us when we actually got into these areas on such a huge site. For the help I received with this, a special thanks goes out to Dave Holt whose help was invaluable in the planning and as an Area Manager. Although I think it’s the hardest he has worked in a long time, I think he loved being knee deep in it really!
Away from the cleaning when we actually had time to catch some of the bands, it was superb to be involved in this event and some of the acts that played were brilliant, my personal favourites being Radiohead and David Gray. This event was the highlight of our event season for me, and I am sure Mr Watts and Mr Barclay would agree to this if asked!?
